Once the home of Alexander and Martha Mitchell (Billy’s grandparents), the vacant Mitchell mansion became home to the “Deutscher” or “German” Club in 1894, after fire had destroyed the Old Opera House.  The Wisconsin Club has retained much of the Mansion’s old world craftsmanship and has been completely restored, retaining its unique architecture, splendor and beauty. The Club is ADA compliant.

Today, rooms where presidents, heads of state, generals and kings were once entertained, act as the settings for the Club’s many activities and amenities.  The ornate Grand Ballroom is the site of choice for many of our larger clubs private social occasions and corporate events.

The Club’s two main dining rooms provide members the choice of a casual or more formal setting. Regardless of the setting, Executive Chef Allen Boltik and his staff offer a selection of traditional favorites to imaginative cuisine.  The Club also maintains an additional dining room on the main floor that has a quaint and cozy atmosphere.  This dining room is reserved for private functions and is the perfect setting to hold smaller, business, organization and social gatherings.

Belvedere & Gardens
Built by an Italian woodcarver in 1871 and renovated in 1993, the Belvedere is said to be the finest structure of its kind in the country. During the summer it’s not unusual to see the south lawn all aglow and alive with a club or private outdoor party.

Dining Rooms
Mitchell Room - This first floor dining room was completely renovated in the fall of 2005.  This elegant room includes beautiful stained glass, rich woodwork and floor to ceiling windows that overlook the Club’s south lawn and historic Belvedere.  Fresh seafood is flown in daily from Boston’s famous Foley Fish Market.  USDA Prime cuts of beef and pork are the standard.

Breakfast lovers can chose from ala carte and “on the go” selections served each weekday morning.  Like breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Mitchell Room are unforgettable experiences.

Can’t make breakfast?  Then don’t miss lunch served Monday through Friday.  The room’s natural light, fresh flowers and beautiful table settings provide just the right ambiance for you to enjoy a wide variety of luncheon favorites, served by a very attentive staff.

Wednesday through Saturday evenings, the lights are lowered, the candles lit and the Victorian charm and splendor of the Mitchell Room makes for a very memorable dining experience.  The soft and subtle sounds performed live on our Baby Grand add romance and relaxation to each evening.  Throughout the year, the Mitchell Room hosts themed Thursday Wine Tasting Parties and Gourmet Wine & Dine Buffets and dinners.  The stylish bar is a wonderful place to share a cocktail or fine wine with a friend after work or a loved one after an evening out.

Deutscher Room & Grille Bar - This intimate dining room on the first floor features a huge copper fireplace, rich wood accents and a quiet country setting. This dining room is reserved for smaller private functions.

Alexander’s - Until 1994, the Club’s lower level housed a bowling alley. After a complete renovation that maintained some of the mansion’s original Cream City brick, and the addition of a casual dining area, a beautiful oak bar; flat screen TV’s throughout, a 100” rear projection TV, and a comfortable lounge area with plasma screen TV, Alexander’s is our very popular sports bar and grill.

Members can chose from tempting appetizers, a lighter menu of fresh soups, sandwiches and salads, or a selection of steak, poultry and seafood entrées, prepared to your liking. Alexander’s serves lunch Monday through Friday, and dinner every night except Wednesdays and summer Sundays. From the middle of September through the middle of May, members can bring the whole family to “Sunday Family Night Dinner”. A special menu and special pricing is available for all family members to enjoy.

Members can reserve Alexander’s on Wednesday (except when the Bucks are playing in town) and summer Sunday evenings for private occasions.
